Electric scooters require batteries that balance energy density, weight, and cycle life for reliable urban transportation. The 48V platform has become the industry standard for mid-range and high-performance scooters, providing adequate power for motors up to 1000W while maintaining reasonable battery pack size.
Battery capacity directly determines scooter range. A 48V 20Ah battery provides approximately 40-60km range depending on rider weight, terrain, and speed. Higher capacity options extend range for delivery applications and longer commutes.
LiFePO4 vs NMC Chemistry
LiFePO4 batteries offer superior cycle life and safety compared to NMC alternatives. With 6,000+ cycles and inherent thermal stability, LiFePO4 is ideal for commercial scooter fleets where longevity and safety are paramount.
NMC batteries provide higher energy density for lighter weight, but at the cost of shorter cycle life and greater thermal sensitivity. For consumer scooters where weight matters most, NMC may be preferable. For commercial applications, LiFePO4 provides better total cost of ownership.
Charging Infrastructure
48V batteries typically charge from standard 220V outlets using dedicated chargers. Fast charging capability enables 80% charge in 2-3 hours. Swappable battery systems eliminate charging downtime entirely for fleet operations.
Smart BMS integration enables charger communication for optimized charging profiles. Temperature monitoring prevents charging outside safe ranges. Cell balancing ensures uniform charge across all cells for maximum capacity utilization.
